Would you like to be more comfortable in your canoe? Do you want to be more confident in the open ocean? Want to learn how to read the water and have a better understanding of the tide, wind and swell, and how that affects paddling performance? Do you want to ride a bump? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then this is the clinic for you.

Come join Dana Outrigger teammates and 2024 Catalina Crossing Champions Grace Hardy & Candice Appleby for an informative, user-friendly, two-hour OC-1 Clinic. This clinic is aimed to help you gain more confidence in your open ocean paddling by teaching you how to read the water. You will learn how various wind directions, swell directions, currents and tides affect the ocean conditions as well as how your canoe moves through the water. You will learn various drills to help with stability and comfort in your canoe in the open water, as well as techniques that will help you feel, see and catch bumps. We will also discuss course management.  (12 Participants).

Topics Include:

  • Equipment management; proper rigging & rudders for open water conditions.
  • Bracing Drills for rough conditions.
  • Open Ocean Variables; Tide, Wind, Swell, Reef and Course Management.
  • Bump Riding; Learn how to see, feel & catch open ocean swells.

Date: Saturday, March 1st 2025.

Time: 10:30-12:30pm

Location: Baby Beach, Dana Point Harbor, CA

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to check-in. Give yourself ample time to park and prepare your equipment.

BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat). Leashes Required.

No Refunds after February 22nd. If we get rained out, Make-Up Clinic will be March 22nd.
