September Ocean Academy SUP Training Club

September training is all about sharpening race fitness, building speed, and preparing for a packed fall racing season. With USA SUP Nationals as a major focus, we’ll be dialing in the fitness, skills, and race-day execution needed to perform at your best when it counts.

We’ll also be building toward the Harbor Hoot in October, our very own Green Buoy Battle in November, and other upcoming fall and winter series races. Training will include a mix of harbor-based race work and open-ocean sessions, allowing athletes to prepare for the variety of conditions and course formats they may encounter this season.

We have 6 in-person training sessions this month, combining focused midweek intensity sessions with longer weekend efforts. September training will continue developing speed, endurance, efficiency, race strategy, and the ability to execute under pressure.

What You’ll Focus On

Each session combines technical skill development with structured interval training designed to improve race-day fitness, confidence, and execution.

September will emphasize:

  • Preparation for USA SUP Nationals, Harbor Hoot, Green Buoy Battle, and other fall and winter series races
  • Explosive race starts and acceleration
  • Sustaining speed and power under fatigue
  • Race pacing and energy management
  • Drafting, passing, and positioning
  • Buoy turns and technical race skills
  • Open-ocean efficiency and handling changing conditions
  • Race strategy and adapting to different course formats
  • Finishing speed and learning to race strong all the way through the line

As race season approaches, the goal is to turn fitness and technique into race-ready execution.

Beyond the Group Sessions

In addition to the in-person sessions, athletes will receive a structured supplemental training plan including paddling workouts, strength, core, and cardio programming.

These periodized sessions are designed to complement our group training and prepare athletes for USA SUP Nationals and the fall and winter racing season. Workouts can be completed independently or alongside fellow club members.
