Proper fueling can make the difference between feeling strong at the end of a race… or completely running out of gas.

Join Ocean Academy Coach Candice Appleby for a 90-minute online clinic focused on nutrition and hydration strategies specifically for paddle racing and outrigger season.

This session is designed for outrigger paddlers preparing for the OC6 racing season, but the information is valuable for anyone participating in endurance paddle sports including SUP, OC1, surfski, and prone paddlebaording.

Whether you’re new to endurance paddling or looking to improve your race-day performance, this clinic will help you understand how to fuel, hydrate, and recover properly so you can paddle stronger and longer.

In this clinic we’ll cover:

  • What to eat before training and race day
    • How to fuel during long paddles and races
    • Hydration strategies for performance and recovery
    • Electrolytes and hydration systems (including hydration packs and setup tips)
    • Supplement basics for endurance paddlers
    • Post-training and post-race recovery nutrition
    • Simple fueling strategies you can start using immediately

This session is hosted by Candice Appleby, multiple-time Stand Up Paddle World Champion and open women’s paddler for Dana Outrigger Canoe Club, part of the 2024 and 2025 Catalina Championship teams.

Candice brings nearly two decades of paddle sport racing experience, including five Molokai to Oahu crossings, along with many other races around the world. She’s excited to share the fueling strategies she’s developed through years of training and racing at the highest level.

Whether you’re preparing for your first outrigger season or looking for an edge in your racing performance, this clinic will help you approach training and race day better fueled, hydrated, and prepared.

Format: Live Zoom Clinic
Duration: 90 minutes
Limited to 50 participants per session

The session will be recorded live, and participants will receive access to the recording afterward. Sign-ups for intended for per/person, not watch parties.

Registered participants will receive their Zoom link and clinic details via email a few days prior to the event.
