Join the Ocean Academy OC1 Training Club this February for a comprehensive training experience designed to prepare paddlers for the Hal Rosoff Classic (February 14) and the Lanakila Classic (February 21), while also building a strong foundation for the upcoming OC6 season and club time trials.

This program combines a structured training plan with in-person, coached group workouts to help you develop fitness, efficiency, and confidence in the open ocean. Whether you’re racing this winter, preparing for OC6 selection, or simply want to become a stronger, more confident paddler, the Ocean Academy OC1 Training Club offers a high-level and supportive training environment.

(10 Participants Minimum, 20 Participants Maximum)

What’s Included

Three Coached Group Workouts per Month

February Sessions:

  • Saturday, January 3110:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    • Saturday, February 710:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    • Saturday, February 28 — 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Comprehensive Training Plan via Final Surge

  • Paddle-specific interval workouts
    • Strength and stability training
    • Cardio and endurance recommendations
    • Training structured to support OC1 racing and OC6 readiness

Expert Coaching from Candice Appleby & Grace Hardy

Training will focus on:
• OC1 interval training and race preparation
• Efficient stroke mechanics and power application
• Starts, buoy turns, pacing, and finishes
• Reading ocean conditions (wind, swell, tide, current)
• Building fitness and consistency for OC6 time trials
• Translating solo paddling skills into crew performance

(Ocean Academy custom training plans alone are typically $200/month.)

Even if you miss one in-person session, you’ll still receive the complete training plan to stay on track.

Location

All in-person workouts meet at:
Baby Beach – Dana Point Harbor
Please arrive rigged and ready to paddle.

(Open-ocean sessions included as conditions allow.)

Requirements & Recommendations

  • Must have your own OC1 and equipment
    • Leashes required
    • Arrive early — workouts begin promptly
    • Ability to paddle at least 6 miles in 90 minutes
    • Must be willing to paddle in open-ocean conditions
    • No refunds for inclement weather
    • No refunds after February 1, 2026

Important Disclaimer

A minimum of 10 participants must be registered by February 1 for the club to run.

If the minimum is not met, all participants will receive a full refund.

If you miss an in-person session, there are no make-ups or prorated rates, but you will still receive the full training plan.
