OC1 Training Club October: Foundations Edition

Train Smarter. Build Your Foundation. Paddle With Confidence.

The Ocean Academy OC1 Training Club is back this October with coaches Candice Appleby and Grace Hardy.

With the OC6 season coming to an end, this month-long program will help you transition into small-boat training, maintain and build fitness during the off-season, and prepare for the upcoming OC1 racing season.

October’s theme is Foundations. We’ll focus on the training methods, technical skills, and boat-handling fundamentals that help paddlers become stronger, more efficient, and more confident on the water.

This program is open to paddlers of all levels who meet the minimum speed and safety requirements. You do not have to be racing to participate.

October Training Focus

Throughout the month, you’ll work on:

  • Proper training methods, including heart-rate zone work and purposeful workout structure
  • Land-based strength and conditioning
  • Ocean Academy’s foundational OC1 drills
  • Stroke technique and efficient body mechanics
  • Stability, agility, and boat-handling skills
  • Transitioning flat-water speed into open-water speed
  • Course navigation using wind, current, tides, and ocean swells
  • Preparation for the Green Buoy Battle and the upcoming small-boat racing season
